David Dickinson is an accomplished music industry professional with over three decades of experience in artist development, music production, and audio engineering. His career began in 1990 as a band equipment technician on ZZ Top’s Recycler World Tour. Following the tour’s conclusion in 1992, he joined Hamstein Music Group in Austin, Texas, as Director of A&R for the company’s publishing division.
At Hamstein, Dickinson worked with an elite roster of artists and songwriters, including Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard, Clint Black, Haydon Nicholas, Jerry Lynn Williams, Frankie Miller, Stephen Allen Davis, Nicky Hopkins, Willie Wilcox, Carl Marsh, Jay Booker, and Joe Hardy. He played a pivotal role in promoting their compositions to producers, managers, label executives, and recording artists.
David's early successes include placements of two Jerry Lynn Williams songs on Jonny Lang’s platinum album Wander This World, and another Williams song recorded by Kenny Wayne Shepherd for the platinum-selling Trouble Is. He also secured song recordings for Gregg Allman’s Searching for Simplicity, Rod Stewart’s gold-certified A Spanner in the Works (featuring a Frankie Miller composition), and Buddy Guy’s Heavy Love, which included a song co-written by Gibbons, Hill, and Beard.
Reporting directly to industry veteran Bill Ham, Dickinson was instrumental in scouting and evaluating musical talent across the U.S. and Europe. His talent roster included notable names such as Randy Houser, Easton Corbin, Reverie Lane, Del Castillo, El Flaco, Spoon, Trail of Dead, Ugly Mustard, Regan Cairns, and Jam Pain Society.
In addition to his A&R responsibilities, Dickinson arranged and facilitated co-writing sessions for artists such as Jerry Lynn Williams, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Jonny Lang. His international duties included representing Hamstein Music at MIDEM in Cannes—one of the most influential global music trade fairs—where he helped organize sub-publishing partnerships for Hamstein Music Ltd. (UK) and Editions Hamstein Sad (France). He also served as an engineer and producer/manager in the company’s in-house recording studio.
Following the 2002 acquisition of Hamstein by a Los Angeles-based company, Dickinson remained in Austin and formally established Boiler Room Studios. Under his leadership, Boiler Room has evolved into a premier recording facility, serving both major and independent artists. Notable collaborators include The Cure, Johnny Solinger (Skid Row), Omar Dykes (Omar & the Howlers), The Kinship, Del Castillo, Peace & The Chaos, James Lann, Jerrod Medulla, and World Beneath World.
Today, David Dickinson continues to mentor and develop emerging talent, offering production, engineering, and artist development services to shape the next generation of musical voices.
